Dehydrated Hamburger

Earle A. Jones

Dehydrated hamburger can keep indefinitely if all fat is removed after cooking.

Cook lean hamburger until brown, breaking with a fork during cooking.  Place in colander and run under hot water to remove fat. Drain. Place on dehydrater racks in thin layer. (hint: use nylon window screen material cut to fit racks to prevent meat from falling through grids while drying.)

Allow to dry for 12 -15 hours.

Dehydrated hamburger is up to 65 % lighter and reduced in volume. Approx 1/2 cup is equal to 1 lb. but measure yourself to be sure.
To rehydrate soak in water for about 15 minutes before adding other ingredients. Great with Good old Kraft Dinner.
